The terms
Last updated: 22 July 2026. These terms set practical product boundaries for Paper Tiger.
Paper Tiger is an education technology service for study and active recall. It helps learners practise explaining concepts, compare attempts against answer-key material where available, receive AI-assisted feedback, save progress, schedule review, and create targeted flashcards.
Paper Tiger is operated by Paper Tiger Learning Technologies Ltd. It is not a school, university, exam board, tutoring provider, professional adviser, or regulated professional service.
Paper Tiger content, grading, feedback, summaries, primers, flashcards, and AI outputs are for study support only. They are not professional, regulated, or personalised advice, and they are not a substitute for checking primary sources, course materials, official guidance, tutors, or qualified professionals.
You are responsible for how you use Paper Tiger and for independently checking important information.
Only submit material you own or are authorised to use. Keep sensitive personal material out of Paper Tiger.
Paper Tiger and its licensors retain their respective rights in the platform and published study materials, including curriculum maps, topic materials, primers, prompts, answer keys, model answers and feedback structures. Subject to payment where required and these terms, Paper Tiger gives you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to access and use those materials for your own study during the stated access period.
If an adult purchaser buys access for a different eligible learner, this personal study licence is granted to the learner whose account receives the access. The purchaser does not acquire a separate right to study through, copy, or share that account.
You may make reasonable personal notes and use downloads or exports that Paper Tiger expressly provides. You must not resell, sublicense, publish, distribute or share the materials or substantial parts of them; systematically or in bulk copy, download, screenshot, scrape, crawl, extract or harvest them; use them as a dataset for training, fine-tuning or systematically evaluating another AI system; or use substantial parts to create a competing study-content product.
These restrictions do not prevent limited quotation, fair dealing for private study or research, or any other use permitted by law.
Names of examinations, regulators, assessment providers and professional bodies are used only to identify the examinations for which study support is provided. Unless an exam-specific notice expressly states otherwise, Paper Tiger is not affiliated with, approved, accredited, endorsed or recommended by those organisations. Relevant names and trade marks remain the property of their respective owners. Exam-specific ownership, licence and independence wording is set out in the Exam and trade mark notices.
Paper Tiger is an education technology service. From time to time:
Paper Tiger may restrict or suspend an account or affected feature only where reasonably necessary for one or more of the following reasons:
Paper Tiger will act proportionately and, where reasonably possible, limit a restriction to the affected account, feature, or period. Unless immediate action is reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or service integrity, Paper Tiger will give reasonable notice, explain the reason, and give you a reasonable opportunity to put a remediable minor breach right before permanently ending paid access.
If Paper Tiger permanently ends affected paid access for a reason that was not caused by your breach and does not provide a reasonably equivalent replacement, it will provide an appropriate refund for the affected part and unused period. This may be a proportionate refund or a greater remedy where your statutory rights require it.
You must be 16 or over to create or use a Paper Tiger account. When creating an account or accepting revised terms, you confirm that you are at least 16. Paper Tiger records only that minimum-age declaration; it does not ask for your date of birth or exact age. Do not create or use an account if you are under 16.
Account holders aged 16 or 17 may use the learning service, but cannot complete a paid checkout. Every paid purchase must be completed by someone aged 18 or over who confirms that they are the purchaser. The adult may buy for themselves or direct the purchased access to an eligible learner's account. Misstating either age confirmation is a breach of these terms.
Our short young learner privacy summary explains the main privacy points for 16- and 17-year-olds. The full Privacy Notice continues to apply.
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for activity on your account. You should use accurate account information and tell the Paper Tiger team if you believe your account has been compromised.
Paid accounts are personal and you must not share your credentials with another learner. You may remain signed in on several of your own devices, but only one learner may actively study through the account at a time. Paper Tiger may warn, pause or transfer active study access between devices to apply this rule.
You agree that you will not:
AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, inconsistent, or unsuitable for your specific circumstances. Paper Tiger normally assesses answers against task-specific key points or source material. If a complete answer key is unavailable, it may provide a clearly labelled assessment that relies more heavily on AI judgment.
Paper Tiger does not guarantee perfect scoring, complete coverage, exam success, or any learning outcome. You retain responsibility for reviewing your own work, checking important information against authoritative materials, and deciding what to study next.
You retain any rights you hold in the content you submit. Paper Tiger does not claim ownership of it. You are responsible for that content and, by submitting it, confirm that you have the right to use it in Paper Tiger and that it does not breach these terms.
You allow Paper Tiger to process your submitted content to provide Paper Tiger’s services, including grading, feedback, storage, review scheduling, flashcards, support, troubleshooting, security, and privacy features.
That permission is limited to those services and their necessary operation. It does not give Paper Tiger permission to sell, license or disclose identifiable or pseudonymised learner content, give it to employers, or use it to train a general-purpose AI model. A learner may use an export Paper Tiger provides and may choose to share that export with a recipient; that is not a default sharing or employer-monitoring arrangement.
The Privacy Notice explains how Paper Tiger handles personal data, cookies, browser storage, optional analytics, AI processing, and privacy requests.
Paper Tiger may change, pause, restrict, or discontinue unpaid, or preview features as the product develops, and may make changes reasonably necessary for security, operability, or legal compliance. Paper Tiger Learning Technologies Ltd may update these terms as the product changes. The current version and effective date will remain available on this page.
Changes to these terms apply prospectively. They do not change the price, edition, access period, or other purchase information already agreed for a paid study pack unless you expressly agree or the fair-use safeguard procedure in section 11 applies. If a change materially affects your current account or agreement, Paper Tiger will give reasonable notice.
Paper Tiger Studio is a monthly subscription for private module creation. It costs £9.99 each month. No VAT is charged. It renews automatically each month until you cancel. There is no trial or minimum term. Studio starts when Stripe confirms payment.
You can turn off renewal at any time through Manage Studio. New module creation remains available until the end of the paid billing period. After that, you can still read, study, export, and delete existing private material, but cannot generate new material. A failed renewal has a three-day payment-recovery grace period before new generation is disabled.
Before checkout you may choose to start Studio immediately. By accepting these Terms and choosing “Subscribe & start Studio”, you agree to the following payment obligation and calculation: If you cancel during the initial 14-day cancellation period after asking for immediate start, the charge is the amount paid for the first month multiplied by the elapsed service time divided by the first monthly billing period, capped at that amount and rounded down to the nearest penny; the remainder is refunded. Elapsed service time runs from payment confirmation until Paper Tiger receives your cancellation; the first monthly billing period runs from payment confirmation until the corresponding date in the following month. This does not affect rights you cannot legally waive.
Some study packs are sold for a fixed edition and access period. The checkout page shows the exact access end date before payment; that date forms part of your purchase. Prices are shown in pounds sterling. The price shown is the total amount payable. No VAT is charged.
Each study-pack purchase is a separate contract under these terms. Only a person aged 18 or over may place an order. The person who completes checkout and gives the adult-purchaser confirmation is the purchaser and enters the paid contract with Paper Tiger, including where access is supplied to a different eligible learner's account. The order is an offer to purchase the edition shown at checkout. Paper Tiger accepts that order, and the contract is formed, when Stripe confirms successful payment to Paper Tiger. The contract includes the version of these terms in force at that time, the pack and edition description and purchase details shown before you order, the checkout wording, and the written purchase confirmation. If general wording conflicts with a specific checkout detail, the specific checkout detail applies.
Before any paid checkout, the purchaser must make this separate declaration: “I confirm that I am 18 or over, am the purchaser, and am buying for myself or for a learner aged 16 or over.” The learner who receives access must be at least 16. An adult purchaser does not become entitled to use the learner's account merely because they paid, and only the account holder may use its study features.
Each paid study pack has two separately identified components. The digital-content component includes the authored curriculum map, topic materials, answer-key-led study content, primers and other published learning material. The online-services component includes AI grading, transcription, cloud progress storage, review scheduling and related interactive account features for the stated access period.
The amount actually paid is allocated 50% to the digital study content and 50% to the associated online services. Any discount is shared in the same proportions; if a total cannot be divided exactly, the extra penny is allocated to the services. This allocation is part of the purchase information shown before payment and is fixed for that purchase. It is not changed retrospectively.
Voice transcription and grading are included throughout a purchased edition for personal, non-automated study use, subject to proportionate fair-use safeguards against automated, shared or abusive use and to protect security and service availability.
Paper Tiger may introduce or adjust proportionate fair-use safeguards where reasonably necessary to prevent automated, shared, or abusive use, protect security, or preserve reliable service. These safeguards will not be used as a routine metered allowance for ordinary individual study.
Paper Tiger will give reasonable advance notice of a material change to these safeguards, except where immediate action is reasonably necessary for security or service integrity. If a material change substantially reduces the paid service available to you, you may reject the change and request an appropriate pro-rata refund for the unused part of your access period.
Directly before checkout, Paper Tiger asks you to make two confirmations under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The first confirms the adult purchaser and acceptance of these Terms, including the cancellation and service-charge information in this section. The second is one clear immediate-access choice: it expressly consents to immediate supply of the digital study content, acknowledges the resulting loss of that component's 14-day cancellation right and requests that the online services start immediately. Paper Tiger records the Terms version, wording version, those confirmations and the price allocation with the purchase.
The online-services component normally remains cancellable for 14 days, beginning the day after the contract is formed. By accepting these Terms and asking for immediate commencement, you agree to the following payment obligation and calculation: The online-services price is 50% of the amount actually paid. If you cancel that component during its 14-day cancellation period after asking for immediate start, the charge is the service price multiplied by the elapsed service time divided by the full agreed service period, capped at the service price and rounded down to the nearest penny; the remainder is refunded. Elapsed service time runs from payment confirmation until Paper Tiger receives your cancellation; the full agreed service period runs from payment confirmation to the displayed access end date. Paper Tiger does not add a token, transcription-minute, administration or cancellation fee to this calculation.
When the online-services component is cancelled, new paid AI grading and transcription for that purchase stop. Access to the digital study content already supplied continues for the stated edition access period because that component has not been cancelled or refunded. Paper Tiger may leave no-charge account functions and access to your existing saved material available.
If Paper Tiger did not give the required cancellation and service charge information or did not obtain the required request, you will not be charged for service supplied in the cancellation period where the law says no charge is due. If the requirements for immediate digital-content supply were not satisfied, the statutory cancellation consequences for that component apply instead of the waiver described above.
To cancel, the purchaser or account holder may email hello@paper-tiger.co.uk with a clear statement that they wish to cancel, the Studio or pack name, purchase date, account email and enough information to identify the order. Paper Tiger may take proportionate steps to verify the requester and purchase, but will not treat omission of an optional form field as invalidating an otherwise clear notice. You may use the model cancellation form, but you do not have to. A valid cancellation is acknowledged on a durable medium. Any cancellation refund is made without undue delay and within 14 days using the original payment method, without a refund fee, unless you expressly agree otherwise.
Change-of-mind cancellation rights are separate from rights where something is wrong. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality; statutory remedies can include repair or replacement and, where the legal conditions are met, a price reduction up to the full affected price or a refund. Services must be performed with reasonable care and skill and as agreed; statutory remedies can include repeat performance or an appropriate price reduction. Nothing in these terms restricts those rights.
If something has gone wrong, email hello@paper-tiger.co.uk. Complaints are acknowledged and handled as quickly as possible, normally within 14 days.
Paper Tiger Learning Technologies Ltd is not required to use, and does not currently participate in, an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme. This does not affect your statutory rights or your right to bring court proceedings.
Paper Tiger Learning Technologies Ltd is responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a reasonably foreseeable result of its breach of these terms or its failure to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious that it would happen or if, when the relevant contract was formed, both you and Paper Tiger knew that it might happen.
Paper Tiger is not responsible for loss to the extent that it was caused by your breach of these terms, unlawful or unauthorised use, failure to follow reasonable instructions, or failure to take reasonable steps to avoid or reduce the loss. This does not excuse Paper Tiger from responsibility for its own breach or failure to use reasonable care and skill.
Paper Tiger is supplied for personal and non-commercial study. If you use it for a trade, business, craft, or profession, Paper Tiger is not responsible for business losses, including loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings, or business interruption.
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; breach of statutory rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted, including rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015; or any other liability that it would be unlawful to exclude or restrict.
Paper Tiger is not responsible for delay or failure to perform an obligation to the extent it is caused by an event outside its reasonable control, such as a widespread internet, cloud-provider, payment-network, or utility failure, malicious attack, natural event, epidemic, industrial dispute, or government action.
Paper Tiger will take reasonable steps to reduce the effect of the event, keep affected users informed where practicable, and resume performance as soon as reasonably possible. If such an event materially prevents paid online services for a significant part of the agreed access period, Paper Tiger will provide a reasonable extension or an appropriate proportionate refund for the affected period. Statutory rights remain unaffected.
Your account and personal study-material licence are personal to you and may not be transferred to another person, except where the law permits or Paper Tiger agrees in writing. Paper Tiger may transfer its rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation as part of a sale, reorganisation, or transfer of the service, but only if the transfer does not reduce your rights. It will give reasonable notice of a transfer that materially affects a current paid agreement.
This does not prevent an adult purchaser from directing purchased access to the eligible learner account identified for the order. That learner may enforce the personal licence and access terms that expressly benefit them, subject to these terms, under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999. The purchaser remains responsible for payment and may exercise the purchaser's cancellation and refund rights.
If one part of these terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining parts continue in effect. If Paper Tiger does not enforce a term immediately, that does not waive its right to enforce it later.
Except for an eligible learner expressly given purchased access as described above, and where these terms otherwise say so, no person other than you and Paper Tiger Learning Technologies Ltd has a right to enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.
These terms and any dispute or claim arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory consumer protections under the law that applies where you live.
Consumers living in England or Wales may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. Consumers living in Scotland may use the Scottish courts, and consumers living in Northern Ireland may use the Northern Irish courts. Any additional court rights given by mandatory consumer law remain available. Paper Tiger will bring proceedings against a consumer only in courts permitted by applicable consumer law.
